Holy Trinity Academy does not use Common Core standards.
Holy Trinity does not participate in one-to-one technology in any grade. Our school critically assesses the role of computers and information technologies in light of a classical education. Technology is a fact of contemporary life and a useful resource that can be utilized when appropriate. Classical education requires a space where students can experience freedom from these technologies and develop independently of them. Our pedagogy creates this space by stressing personal interaction in instruction and “manual labor” (e.g. handwriting) in the completion of assignments. We encourage students to take time, attend patiently to detail, and correct mistakes. The truly liberating answer to the problem of student's immersion in technology is not just a more responsible use of technology-– it is to give them something better to love.
Due to the use of the Socratic method and the design of our curriculum, classes will remain small, preserving a low teacher-student ratio. When the Academy opens, it will maintain one class of 15 scholars per grade. Our intention is to grow the number of classes per grade to two to three classes per grade. A grade with three classes will maintain about 45 scholars.
A defining characteristic of a classical education is a reliance on the Socratic method, a teaching style inspired by the great Greek philosopher Socrates. The Socratic method is a form of cooperative and instructional dialogue between teacher and scholar. The teacher leads by asking questions, and scholars engage by asking questions of their own. The goal is to probe ideas so that scholars understand and can articulate their beliefs. These methods were made famous by both Plato, who viewed education as orientating scholars to Truth; and Aristotle, who stressed the everyday habituation of scholars toward the classical virtues of wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice. Holy Trinity Academy scholars are immersed in a routine of reading, discussing, writing, and speaking about what St. Thomas Aquinas refers to as the “permanent things.”
School Tuition will be comparable to other private schools in the Bayou Region.
We are opening grades K-12 in Fall 2023.
Yes. Extracurriculars are vital to the formation of Character, one of our three pillars. We encourage athletics and extra-curricular activities as a way of fostering the fullness of life.
Holy Trinity Academy’s classical education is perfect for those looking to get into the college of their choice. But Holy Trinity Academy seeks to help your scholar get into a place with the highest vocational calling: Heaven. All of our scholars– whether they choose to attend college, or pursue other noble careers in the arts, the trades, or the military– will be at home at Holy Trinity Academy. However, we define success a bit differently than the ordinary school, taking our cue from Christ, Mary, and the Saints rather than the latest educational trends. Above all, Holy Trinity Academy is a Heaven Prep school.
Liberal education has nothing to do with a particular political ideology, but rather with learning the “art of being free.” Catholic liberal education (from the Latin, liber, which means “free”) is ordered to the Truth that sets us free. This formation frees teachers and students to grow in faith, wisdom, and virtue.
There are four common types of Catholic schools. We are an Independent Catholic Academy.
Parochial schools are Catholic schools that are tied to a parish and the ministry of that parish.
Diocesan schools are run and tied directly to the Diocese.
Religious schools are schools that belong to a religious order and are governed by that order.
Independent Catholic schools are governed by a board of trustees or directors. They are Catholic, following the teachings of the Magisterium and answering directly to the Bishop of the Diocese in all matters pertaining to the Faith.
Yes. We are a Catholic institution; however, all our brothers and sisters are welcomed to come and learn and grow in Christ with us.
